Genomic and meta-genomic insights into the functions, diversity and global distribution of haptophyte algae

چکیده

Haptophytes are an environmentally important phylum of eukaryotic phytoplankton, forming the second most abundant algal group after diatoms in recent estimates ocean biodiversity. phylogenetically and functionally diverse, including globally distributed bloom-forming calcifying species such as Emiliania Coccolithus, non-calcifying orders that may form components phytoplankton communities polar (Phaeocystis, Chrysochromulina) through to sub-tropical latitudes (Pavlova). In this review, we synthesize available phylogenetic, genomic environmental information concerning diversity haptophyte life, considering origins placement on tree; five major (Pavlovophyceae, Phaeocystales, Prymnesiales, CSZ clade, Isochrysidales); contrasting biogeographical distributions groups across different Tara Oceans sampling stations size fractions. We additionally consider outstanding questions within fields biology, particularly context newly discovered largely uncultured (DPL lineages Rappemonads), current gaps our knowledge content niche adaptation tree.

(Meta)genomic insights into the pathogenome of Cellulosimicrobium cellulans

Despite having serious clinical manifestations, Cellulosimicrobium cellulans remain under-reported with only three genome sequences available at the time of writing. Genome sequences of C. cellulans LMG16121, C. cellulans J36 and Cellulosimicrobium sp. strain MM were used to determine distribution of pathogenicity islands (PAIs) across C. cellulans, which revealed 49 potential marker genes with...

Genomic insights into positive selection.

The traditional way of identifying targets of adaptive evolution has been to study a few loci that one hypothesizes a priori to have been under selection. This approach is complicated because of the confounding effects that population demographic history and selection have on patterns of DNA sequence variation. In principle, multilocus analyses can facilitate robust inferences of selection at i...

Genomic insights into head and neck cancer

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is the sixth most common cancer worldwide and is frequently impervious to curative treatment efforts. Similar to other cancers associated with prolonged exposure to carcinogens, HNSCCs often have a high burden of mutations, contributing to substantial inter- and intra-tumor heterogeneity. The heterogeneity of this malignancy is further increased by ...
